Can I Wear Shorts To A...

Wondering if you can wear shorts to a wedding? Well…that might not be the best idea, but don’t fret! It’s a frequently asked question, you are not alone. Whether it be trying to find an outfit for a baby shower, job interview, or, yes even a wedding, we’re here to tell you the do’s and don’ts of shorts etiquette.

A Country Club…?

Great question! Country clubs can be finicky about their dress codes, but most of the time golf appropriate shorts are more than welcome! We advise you to keep the shorts well fitted and not too long (our Performance Shorts are a great example) for a trip to the club.

Job Interviews…?

Hmmm, unless the job comes with a surfboard and a strawberry daiquiri we advise you to leave the shorts at home. Instead, wear a smart pair of black or khaki pants. Flash a bit too much thigh at the first meeting, and the professionals might raise more eyebrows than interest, just stick with the pants.

Wedding…?

If you are asking this question we implore you to go back and reread the invitation and dress code. 99% of the time it is a BIG no no to wear shorts to a wedding. Yes, pants may bring a bit more perspiration, but it’s better than the bride removing you from the photos because “your vibe just doesn’t match.” Pants are the way to go.

Church…?

Depends on the church and the community. Some churches require a much more modest outfit whereas other churches curate a laidback vibe. We would air on the side of caution, leaning towards a respectful pair of pants and a t-shirt if it’s especially hot outside.

Date…?

This one is 50/50 and all comes down to where the date is and what the activities will be. If it’s hot outside and you’re going to be walking around, then yes, we recommend a pair of shorts (our Memphis Shorts for example). For a nice sit down dinner we suggest a pair of pants. Create an itinerary (she’ll appreciate that) and choose your bottoms wisely.

Networking Event…?

This one definitely depends on the setting, but overall shorts are a bit too informal for a networking event. For more business oriented events, we recommend a nice pair of slacks for that perfect first impression.

Fancy Dinner?

Now this is a good question. It’s very dependable on where you are dining and whether or not there is a strict dress code for the restaurant. Overall we would say steer clear from shorts when going out to eat for a fancy dinner, but we wouldn’t completely rule out the option.

Shorts are too comfortable to be kept in the back of your closet, but make sure that you wear them at the appropriate times! Sometimes shorts will earn you more than just a sidelong glance when worn during the wrong occasion.
